According to a statement released by SAPS, a 39-year-old suspect appeared before the Cacadu Magistrates Court on charges of murder. The suspect was arrested by detectives from Ezibeleni and Komani at an abandoned house in Lesseyton, under Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, on February 25.
It is alleged that the deceased was having fun with some of his friends at Ndzina Street in Zakhele Township, where there were six of them in total, three women and three men. It is also alleged that this was the first time the deceased met the suspect.
Reports also indicate that the suspect and the deceased began dating that day and it is said that the six of them went to sleep in separate rooms, whereupon the other lovers said that when they woke up, they saw that the suspect was nowhere to be seen. The deceased, aged thirty-two, was found with wounds to her upper body. The incident was reported to the police, and a case of murder was opened. The suspect is also said to be facing an ongoing murder case from November 2024.
Meanwhile, residents of Zakhele Township, especially young people, came out in large numbers, along with others from other areas in Cacadu, including Emalahleni Activists member and chairperson Asanda Dlikilili, before the Cacadu Magistrate’s Court, demanding that the suspect not be granted bail as he appeared before the Magistrates Court for the first time.

Siyangana Kwentsha, the March Marshall for Zakhele Township Ward 04, said they were residents who came out in large numbers to support the deceased’s family and to protest against the bail application as the suspect appeared for the first time.
The case has been set for March 10, and they are calling on the public to come out in large numbers on that day to support and oppose the bail. The suspect has been remanded in custody until he appears before the court again to apply for bail.
