He recalled a frightening moment when he was shot at while driving to a shop. Thankfully, he escaped unharmed after quickly speeding away. The incident, he said, reminded him of the daily risks police officers face while protecting their communities. During his career, Brigadier Ntandane also served at Hillbrow Police Station, where he encountered significant challenges. He described the area at the time as being in “complete chaos.”

Instead of being discouraged, he focused on rebuilding trust between police and residents. By strengthening partnerships with community leaders, he helped restore stability and improve cooperation. “Challenges will always be there. But a real leader will always find ways to solve problems. Working with the community will always be the best solution,” he said.

As he enters retirement, he encouraged young officers and new recruits to never give up, emphasising the importance of perseverance, integrity and teamwork.

Colonel Mzimasi paid tribute during the farewell celebration, “Mr Ntandane was family to us. He treated everyone at the station with respect and care. I will always remember him.”

The farewell was filled with gratitude, laughter and tears as colleagues shared stories of his leadership and mentorship. Brigadier Ntandane leaves behind a lasting legacy of courage, compassion and service one that will continue to inspire members of the SAPS for years to come.
