The Seplan Circuit under the Department of Education hosted a thanksgiving and awards ceremony at A.M Zantsi Senior Secondary School to honour outstanding performance across its schools, from primary to high school level.

The event recognised the dedication and hard work of the circuit head, school principals and teachers across all academic subjects, as well as their contribution to extra-curricular activities. The ceremony also celebrated the strong matric results achieved by Seplan Circuit high schools, with the circuit emerging as one of the top performers in the Chris Hani East District.

Speaking at the event, Seplan Circuit Manager Ms Mpotulo expressed her gratitude to educators for their resilience and commitment despite ongoing challenges. “We are grateful that we were able to make it through trials and tribulations,” said Mpotulo. “I want to sincerely thank the teachers for their hard work and dedication.”

She added that the circuit is determined to raise the bar even higher in the coming academic year. “Our goal is to surpass the district’s 93 percent pass rate target and push it to 95 percent. This is achievable through collaboration and working together as a circuit,” she said.

Meanwhile Owen Mobo, representing a teachers’ organisation NAPTOSA, welcomed the inclusive nature of the awards, highlighting the importance of recognising educators at all levels. “It is encouraging to see primary school teachers being recognised, alongside those involved in extra-curricular activities,” Mobo said. “These areas play a critical role in making education accessible and easier for learners.”

Sakhisizwe CMC Manager also delivered a message of support, applauding the circuit for achieving strong results despite difficult circumstances. He noted that although the Seplan Circuit is located in a very remote area and is considered one of the poorest, its academic performance is commendable. The awards ceremony served as both a celebration of success and a motivation for continued improvement, reinforcing the importance of teamwork, perseverance and shared responsibility in strengthening education outcomes within the circuit.
