Story: Nondumiso Mpaka

Learners from Ntsinga and Mgudu Schools received school shoes and football kits through a heartfelt initiative led by Comrade Amanda Mendu from the Mountain Top branch in Ngcobo.

The donation formed part of the Back to School campaign under the African National Congress (ANC), aimed at restoring the dignity of learners and supporting children from disadvantaged families. Many of the learners come from underprivileged homes, with some families surviving on government grants.

The football kits were handed over to learners who actively participate in sports, promoting physical activity and teamwork amongst young people. Comrade Mendu emphasized the importance of education and encouraged learners to focus on their studies and develop a strong reading culture.

As a new ANC member, Comrade Mendu has also previously organized a community sports tournament to help steer children away from drug and alcohol abuse, using sport as a positive alternative.

Parents expressed their sincere gratitude for the support, noting the high levels of unemployment they face and the challenges of providing basic necessities for their children. They applauded Comrade Mendu’s continued commitment to uplifting the community and encouraged him not to stop the good work.
