The Young Chiefs Academy, a football team established in 2019, recently travelled to Johannesburg with their under-15 squad to take part in soccer trials and the team performed admirably despite facing several challenges.

According to Thulisa Boya, a member of the team’s senior management, the experience was both rewarding and inspiring. “We went to Johannesburg for trials with our under-15s and performed well despite the difficulties,” she said.

Boya expressed gratitude to the Nqqoko Development Agency for its support, which included providing food, accommodation, and transportation for the team. She also extended a special word of thanks to Coach Lungisa Tayeni, praising his commitment and passion. “Coach Tayeni made sure the children were well prepared for the trials. He put aside his personal challenges and focused on training the players,” she added.

Boya further encouraged the young players to remain dedicated to their studies while pursuing their football dreams.

The trials proved to be a success, with nine players from the Young Chiefs Academy being identified by members of the Johannesburg Klitos team, which competes in the Gauteng Development League (GDL) a league that includes top clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Jomo Cosmos.
