In a continued effort to boost rural development and tackle unemployment, Eastern Cape MEC for Agriculture, Nonceba Kontsiwe, has extended support to a dedicated rural farmer by donating a tractor and farming implements.

This gesture took place during MEC Kontsiwe’s visit to the Sakisizwe Local Municipality, where she handed over the equipment to local farmer and community member, Bangile Jama, from the village of Zikhonkwane in the Cala area.

Jama is known in the community as a passionate and committed farmer who invested his retirement savings to pursue his love for agriculture. His farm has not only served as a source of food production but has also created job opportunities for local residents.

Eastern Cape MEC for Agriculture, Nonceba Kontsiwe, has extended support to a dedicated rural farmer by donating a tractor and farming implements.

MEC Kontsiwe stated that the donation aims to encourage Mr. Jama to continue and expand his agricultural activities, especially since he has been farming for several years using outdated equipment. “We want to empower him to become a commercial farmer who can supply larger markets and potentially become an agribusiness leader,” she said.

Highlighting the broader goal of the initiative, MEC Kontsiwe called on communities across the province to start small-scale projects that address hunger and unemployment. “Those who are already active in agriculture should remain steadfast and committed, as this opens the door to further government support,” she added.

This intervention aligns with the provincial government’s strategy to uplift rural areas by investing in individuals who demonstrate initiative and dedication, ultimately strengthening food security and economic participation in underserved communities.
