Ngcobo residents are beginning to see progress on the long awaited mall project, which has been a topic of community discussion for many years. Construction on the site is officially underway, bringing hope, jobs, and renewed excitement to the town.

Earlier this week, the Mayor of Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality, Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa, visited the construction site to inspect the ongoing work. The Mayor expressed confidence that the mall will significantly boost Ngcobo’s local economy once completed.

He noted that the development will create job opportunities and reduce the need for residents to travel to other towns for shopping.

Young people in Ngcobo are already benefiting from the early phases of the project. One of the workers involved in the site’s fencing said that the job has made a meaningful difference in his life, allowing him to support his family and assist his siblings who are still studying. Community organisation Nyco also welcomed the progress.

Ngcobo Mall construction finally underway after years of delays

According to its leader, Mr Vakutshiwo Gigi, the group had travelled to Pretoria to advocate for community rights related to the project. He said they are pleased to finally see movement after waiting for so long. The Ngcobo Mall is expected to be completed next year, marking a major milestone for the town and its residents.
