Farmers in Emalahleni Local Municipality have commended the municipality for continuing its initiative to support local wool producers through the distribution of rams. The recent handover took place at the McKysneck Shearing Shed in Cacadu.

Chairperson of Emalahleni Farmers Association under the National Wool Growers Association (NWGA), Mandlenkosi Thonti, thanked the municipality and Mayor Cllr Nontombizanele Koni for their ongoing commitment to assisting farmers.

Deputy secretary Nomzamo Khuse from the Ngqanda Shearing Shed said farmers received 25 rams, which were divided among several shearing sheds. She encouraged women to take part in farming and use breeding as a source of income.

Mayor Koni said the programme is held annually to help farmers grow their herds and improve wool quality. Previous handovers were held in Ward 12, Mount Arthur, and Ward 8, Thabo Mbeki Shearing Shed.

This year’s beneficiaries include Wards 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, and 16. “We want to help farmers produce high-quality wool and strengthen Emalahleni’s position in the industry,” said Koni.
