Family, friends, political leaders and community members gathered at Komani Indoor Sports Centre for the memorial service of former Lukhanji Municipality Chief Whip, Thembile “uMzima” Jocki.
Thembile Jocki served as a Councillor and Chief Whip at the erstwhile Lukhanji Municipality from 2000 until 2016. He was actively involved in political structures within the Lukhanji Sub-Region for many years. In 2024, he joined Umkhonto Wesizwe Party, where he served as a volunteer under the Enoch Mgijima Sub-Region.
Speaking on behalf of the family, his nephew, Ntuthuzelo Jackie, described him as a strong and unifying figure within the family. “Thembile Jocki was a pillar of strength in our family. He had the ability to lead and keep the family united. We have suffered a great loss, and the pain is deeply felt by all of us,” said Ntuthuzelo Jackie.

Umkhonto Wesizwe Party member Zukile Mbotoloshi, who attended the memorial service in support of the bereaved family, said they had lost a dedicated colleague. “We worked with Thembile Jocki for many years. He was committed to serving the community. As
Umkhonto Wesizwe Party, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family,” said Zukile Mbotoloshi.
Chief Melisizwe Gulubele of Gwatyu in Tshatshu also paid tribute, saying he had known Thembile Jocki during his time as a councillor.
“I am saddened by the passing of Thembile Jocki. I knew him when he was serving as a councillor, and he worked hard in serving the community,” said Chief Melisizwe Gulubele.
Thembile Jocki is survived by his children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. His funeral service will take place on Saturday, and he will be laid to rest in his home village of Tylden.
The family has described his passing as a profound loss.
