The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Molteno recently donated school shoes to learners in Mlungisi Location, Komani during a heartwarming community outreach event.

The handover took place at Maria Louw Senior Secondary School hall, where children and community members gathered to receive the donations. The initiative is part of Molteno station commander Lieutenant Colonel Vanar’s commitment to community-based policing, emphasising that the police play a role not only in law enforcement but also in uplifting and supporting the community.

Lieutenant Colonel Vanar, who was recently promoted from captain, highlighted that initiatives like this reflect SAPS’ dedication to social projects that benefit vulnerable members of society.

“This project shows that the police are here to serve and build our communities, not just to enforce the law,” she said.

The donation forms part of her ongoing Journey of Hope programme, launched in 2024 in partnership with Samaritan’s Feet South Africa. The programme provides essential items to underprivileged children, restoring dignity and hope while fostering community collaboration.

Through this event, Molteno SAPS continues to strengthen its relationship with local residents, demonstrating that effective policing and community support can go hand in hand.
