The Lady Frere Sport Legends, in partnership with the Mfundo Cecil Foundation, recently hosted a successful Netball tournament at the Cacadu Sports Field in Emalahleni.

The event marked a milestone for the organization as it was their first time involving local schools in the competition.

Sixteen schools from across the three towns of Emalahleni, including Dordrecht, Indwe, and Cacadu were expected to participate.

Lindiwe Hotele-Qaba of the Lady Frere Sport Legends said the organizers were initially anxious about the response from schools but were overwhelmed by the support they received. “We are grateful to everyone who supported us. We were a bit nervous when we started involving schools, but the turnout and enthusiasm were incredible,” she said.

Competition was strong throughout the tournament, with three schools emerging as top performers:

• 1st Place: Lady Frere Full Service School – received a full kit, medals, R2,500 in cash, and a floating trophy.

• 2nd Place: Nompumelelo Senior Primary School – awarded a kit, medals, and R1,500 in cash.

• 3rd Place: Bakaneni Senior Primary School – received a kit, medals, and R1,000 in cash.

The Lady Frere Full Service School is expected to defend its title at next year’s tournament.
